7th grade boys finish season as consolation champs at state tourney


The 7th grade boys team participated in the State Grade Basketball Tournament on March 13th and 14th in Maple Grove and brought home the consolation championship hardware. Game 1 saw the Lakers face the eventual tournament champion team from Stewartville. The Lakers jumped out to an early lead and battled through an extremely physical, close contest. Stewartville was able to score in the final seconds to give the Lakers a heartbreaking 1 point loss.

The Lakers second round opponent was Park Center and the Lakers were able to cruise to a decisive 16 point victory to end day one of the tournament on a positive note.

Day 2 action was win or go home with the Lakers taking on Wayzata. The Lakers managed their way through some cold shooting in their morning action and finished with a 5 point victory to place them solidly into the consolidation championship game. That game saw the Lakers face Anoka. After a close 1st half the Lakers were able to secure a 14 point win behind clutch free throw shooting in the closing minutes. The Lakers finished their season with an overall record of 13-4 and look forward to next season!
